About Crystal

I have always been able to lose myself in the process of creation. Whatever media I find myself utilizing becomes a key into another world. A world where I translate what I see and feel into welcoming paths and subtle mysteries. Nature is my muse and mentor. My desire is to create designs which honor and memorialize her wonders and many gifts. I want to explore nature’s beauty from the macroscopic to the microscopic. I want to continue my travels but now with a heart and eye more widely open to the miracles around me.

After finishing a major in biology and biochemistry and a minor in design at North Carolina State University I followed a different path for many years in the medical field. I still longed to find ways to exercise my creative urges even during these years of hard work. Handmade Halloween cards and painted portraits were my limited outlet until I discovered Janine Vangool’s amazing publication UPPERCASE and through her site signed up for an online course in surface pattern design by Bonnie Christine in 2022. I was hooked and found my life moving in a different direction. I was using any spare time I had to learn with the hope of creating designs I could use in my own home. I am still discovering my voice and style but thankful I have found my way back into the world of design.
